Fascinating Animals from A to Z just won a GOLD Moonbeam Children’s Book Award!
The Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and are dedicated to supporting childhood literacy and life-long reading. The contest is open to authors, illustrators, and publishers of children’s books written in English or Spanish for the North American market. Awards are given in 42 print book and six e-book categories covering the full range of subjects, styles and age groups that children’s books are written and published in today. The Awards are presented by the Jenkins Group and IndependentPublisher.com.
The Awards Ceremony will be held in conjunction with the Traverse City Children’s Book Festival in Traverse City, MI, in November.
We are excited to share that our book won the 9th Annual National Indie Excellence Award in the children's non-fiction category! The NIEA Book Awards contest aims to support self-publishers and independent presses and to highlight books with excellent presentation and writing. It is incredibly validating to be recognized for our work and we feel so honored to be acknowledged with this award.
The best part? We get to smack shiny, new metallic stickers on our books. ;)
Our brains are still spinning from our weekend in New York City where we attended our first ever Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Annual Winter Conference!
We listened to some fabulous speeches by insanely famous authors and illustrators, including Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Hervé Tullet and recent Newbery Medal winner, Kwame Alexander. We met fellow writers and illustrators from our regions, ate mashed potatoes out of fancy martini glasses and gained a lot of insight into the children’s book industry.
The SCBWI is such a supportive and encouraging community and we are so excited to be new members. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get Fascinating Animals from A to Z out there but we can't wait to get started.

We have just heard word that our books have been printed and sent to a bindery in Minnesota. They will be ready to ship soon!
This November, we were lucky enough to take a tour at our printer, Sheridan Books, Inc. in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Growing up around reams of paper and smudges of ink in my dad’s local print shop, it was an incredible experience getting to see (and hear) the enourmous printing presses at Sheridan Books, Inc. I can’t believe the new and exciting places our book has already taken us and can’t wait to see what is next.
We are so close to finally seeing, touching, and smelling the printed version of our book!
